Shahid Kapoor is a Hindi film actor and the son of the actors Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem. He is one of India's highest-paid actors and has appeared on Forbes India's Celebrity 100 list since 2012. He trained as a dancer at Shiamak Davar's academy and worked as a background dancer in a few 1990s films and in music videos and commercials before he got his first lead.

That came in the romantic comedy Ishq Vishk (2003), a sleeper hit that won him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Several commercial failures followed before Sooraj Barjatya's family drama Vivah (2006) became a top grosser. Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007), where he played the troubled businessman Aditya, brought wide praise, and so did his double role as twin brothers in Vishal Bhardwaj's Kaminey (2009).

Bhardwaj's Haider (2014) gave him a Hamlet, set in 1990s Kashmir, and it remains one of the most praised performances of his career. He has won three Filmfare Awards. On this guide he leads Jab We Met and Haider, and plays Ratan Singh in Padmaavat (2018).
