It ran from 14 December 2019 to 16 February 2020, 16 episodes in all.
All-time blockbusters
Its finale drew a nationwide rating of 21.7%, making it the highest-rated drama in tvN's history at the time. It was a major commercial success and was later adapted into a stage musical.
Park Ji-eun based the idea on a real incident in which a South Korean actress drifted into North Korean waters, with echoes of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and The Little Prince. It cost about US$20 million and was filmed over six months in Switzerland, Mongolia and South Korea. Nam Hye-seung produced the soundtrack. It aired on tvN from 14 December 2019 to 16 February 2020 and was distributed worldwide by Netflix, which carried it far beyond Korea. Unlike Descendants of the Sun, it was shot using the live-shoot method, with filming continuing during broadcast.
