KBS2 · 2016
Yoo Shi-jin, a special forces captain, and Kang Mo-yeon, a surgeon, are drawn to each other, but their different views on life and duty pull them apart. They meet again in a fictional, disaster-hit country where both are on a humanitarian mission. Alongside them, Master Sergeant Seo Dae-young and army doctor Yoon Myung-joo carry on a romance her father forbids.
It ran from 24 February 2016 to 22 April 2016, 16 episodes plus 3 specials in all.
All-time blockbusters
It was the first miniseries in South Korea to pass 30% in viewership ratings since 2012. It was also the first Korean drama simulcast in China, via iQIYI, and was exported widely afterwards. It was fully shot before broadcast, unusual for Korean television at the time, on a budget of ₩13 billion.
Development began in 2011, and Kim Eun-sook adapted Kim Won-seok's manuscript Doctors Without Borders. It was filmed in South Korea and Greece with a crew of more than 350. Song Dong-woon and Gaemi composed the soundtrack. It was eventually exported to 32 countries, and reviews praised its performances and dialogue. It also departed from the live-shoot method then standard in Korean television, finishing filming before the first episode aired.
