Hala is left in Pakistan when her father moves to London with his new wife. She grows up in her uncle's house, where her aunt Shah Jahan blames her for everything that goes wrong. Only her grandmother and one uncle stand by her. Then Shah Jahan's son Hamza comes home from abroad, and the balance of the household starts to shift.
It ran from 30 December 2021 to 29 September 2022, 40 episodes in all.
All-time blockbusters
Mere Humsafar was one of the most popular dramas of 2022, with a highest rating of 11.2 for its 38th and 40th episodes. Pakistani media ranked it among the best and most watched dramas of the year, and Farhan Saeed and Hania Aamir were called one of the most loved on-screen couples of 2022. It also found audiences in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and the UAE.
Humayun Saeed and Shehzad Naseeb produced it under Six Sigma Plus, with Qasim Ali Mureed directing a script by Saira Raza. Critical opinion was more mixed than the ratings: The Friday Times praised Hamza but criticised the serial for glamorising violence. Hania Aamir has her own profile on this guide. It was first announced in August 2021 under the working title Jhooti. Qasim Ali Mureed described it to Dawn Images as a family story with a love story in the middle, touching on contemporary issues. Hania Aamir first turned the role of Hala down, feeling it was not a part she would take immediately, before agreeing to play it.
