Why it was a blockbuster

It earned ₹1,200–1,250 crore worldwide, the highest-grossing film of 2022 in India. It set opening-day records in Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam, recorded the fourth-highest opening day in India, and passed the lifetime gross of Chapter 1 in two days to become the highest-grossing Kannada film.

At ₹100 crore it was the most expensive Kannada film made at the time. Prashanth Neel kept most of his crew from the first film, with Bhuvan Gowda as cinematographer and Ravi Basrur on music. Sanjay Dutt made his Kannada debut here. It serves as the direct sequel to KGF: Chapter 1 (2018). Sanjay Dutt and Raveena Tandon joined the cast in early 2019, and the ensemble also includes Ayyappa P. Sharma, Archana Jois, Easwari Rao, John Kokken and T. S. Nagabharana. The story is framed as a narration, picked up by a new narrator when the first one falls ill.
