Why it was a blockbuster
With a worldwide gross of Rs. 51.65 crore, Rs. 35.85 crore at home and Rs. 15.80 crore overseas, it became the highest-grossing Pakistani film until Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 overtook it. It also recorded the biggest single day for any Pakistani film at the time.
It was released on Eid al-Adha under Humayun Saeed and Shahzad Nasib's Six Sigma Plus banner and distributed by ARY Films. Its writer, Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar, later wrote Meray Paas Tum Ho. A spiritual follow-up, London Nahi Jaunga, reunited Humayun Saeed and Mehwish Hayat in 2022. Both have their own profiles on this guide. Its single-day record held until Jawani Phir Nahi Ani 2 broke it the next year. Reviews were warm: Omair Alavi of Samaa TV rated it 4 out of 5 stars. The film also showcases the Punjabi culture of rural Pakistan, from family pride to village weddings.
