Anupam Kher

Anupam Kher is an actor, director and producer in Hindi cinema. In more than four decades he has appeared in over 540 films. He has won two National Film Awards and eight Filmfare Awards. The Government of India awarded him the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.

His debut, Mahesh Bhatt's Saaransh (1984), was also his breakthrough. He played an elderly father while still a young man and won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor. He went on to supporting roles, with praise for villains in Karma (1986), Tezaab (1988) and ChaalBaaz (1989). Vijay (1988) won him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award. Ram Lakhan (1989) won him the Filmfare award for comic performance. Daddy brought him a National Film Award – Special Jury Award and the Filmfare Critics Award.

He is still busy in 2026. On this guide he voices Jatayu in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana: Part One and is in the cast of Yeh Prem Mol Liya. Both are listed as upcoming releases.

He has won the Filmfare award for comic performance for Khel, Darr and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He has also worked abroad, in Bend It Like Beckham, Lust, Caution, Silver Linings Playbook and Hotel Mumbai. He received a BAFTA nomination for the British television film The Boy with the Topknot (2018).
