Sivudu is an adventurous young man raised by villagers at the foot of a great waterfall. Climbing it, he finds Avanthika, a rebel fighting the tyrant king Bhallaladeva, and helps her try to free Devasena, a princess of Kunthala held prisoner in Bhallaladeva's capital. Along the way Sivudu begins to learn who he really is.

Why it was a blockbuster
With a worldwide gross of ₹600–650 crore, it became the highest-grossing Telugu film and the second highest-grossing Indian film worldwide at the time of release. It was also the highest-grossing Tamil film at the time, and its Hindi-dubbed version became the highest-grossing dubbed film in Hindi. Its sequel later broke these records.
It was shot in both Telugu and Tamil. The story came from V. Vijayendra Prasad, Rajamouli's father, who began with the image of Sivagami carrying a baby across a river. Its scale, visual effects and action earned praise at home and abroad, and it set up the two-part story finished in 2017. S. S. Rajamouli announced in February 2011 that Prabhas would star in his next film, and the working title followed in January 2013. Dharma Productions distributed the Hindi version.
