Three friends, Faraz, Kashif and Gulsher, graduate from the Pakistan Military Academy and join the army as young officers. Faraz arrives in a new Mercedes as the Sword of Honour winner and is promptly taken down a peg. Kashif, a general's son, never wanted to be a soldier. Gulsher is quiet and modest. Romance, pranks and real postings follow.
It ran from May 1998 to July 1998, 14 episodes in all.
All-time blockbusters
No audited ratings figure is published for the 1998 run. It is a sequel to Sunehray Din (1991) and is remembered as one of PTV's most popular dramas of the decade. Its leads were serving officers, which gave the story an unusual authenticity that viewers responded to.
Shoaib Mansoor directed it, and ISPR produced it with PTV Lahore and Shoman Productions. The last shooting was completed at the Pakistan Military Academy, Kakul, on 4 December 1997. The story mixes comedy and romance with the army's postings in the Siachen conflict and on United Nations peacekeeping in the Bosnian War. Faraz Inam, Abdullah Mehmood and Qasim Khan were actual officers rather than professional actors. The first episodes play the new officers for laughs: Faraz is fooled by a batman who turns out to be a major, and Kashif, who knows the army through his father, falls for a similar trick a day later. The tone shifts as the three are posted to real operations, and the serial's mix of humour and duty is what most viewers recall.
